Bridewell Theatre & Bar

The Bridewell Theatre

The Foundation has always recognised the importance of dramatic arts in the development of the community and has produced theatrical entertainments as part of that remit for the last 115 years.

In 1994, we converted our Victorian swimming pool (see below) into the Bridewell Theatre, now one of the few off-West End theatres and a key performing arts venue in the heart of the City.

After the departure of our resident theatre company, we were determined to keep the venue alive and we have continued to provide a year round programme of entertainment.

We remain committed to nurturing and showcasing new talent and we support both classical and contemporary drama by playing host to graduate, professional and non-professional performances alike.

In 2011 the swimming pool which is beneath the Theatre floor was partially uncovered for Amphibians, a production by Offstage Theatre. Read the Daily Telegraph’s review of the production
